Visit to Eco-Friendly Church Bldg Sun
Wooster Unitarian Universalists will host us for a tour of their bldg
wooster church
This Sunday, June 24 following the 9:30 am service a group of us from Fairlawn West will travel to Wooster to visit the environmentally friendly building of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Wayne County.  In the fall of 2006, they received the LEED gold certification from the Green Building Council, the first of its kind for a place of worship in the U.S.  You can visit their web site at http://www.uufwc.org/leed.htm.  Feel free to join us right after the service for the trip and tour.  A team is developing to look at how we as a congregation can make our bldg fit more into our values and vision in being more economically efficient and eco-friendly.

50th Anniversary General Synod meets in Hartford, Conn.

50 years ago at Oberlin College the vote was taken and the merger of the Evangelical & Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian Churches formed the United Church of Christ.  General Synod is the national representative gathering every two years for the UCC.  It will begin on June 22nd in Hartford, CT.  To learn more visit http://www.ucc.org/50 and http://www.ucc.org/synod/.  You can also get some commentary by David Loar through his blog links in the left hand column.

New/Old Worship Service to start in Aug

For 7 years we have had the Taize service of meditation and prayer in song on Friday evenings in the parlor.  The Taize service has a historic purpose which you can learn more about at http://www.elca.org/worship/faq/music/taize.html.  The last Taize service on Fridays will be held on July 20th.  Starting on Sunday, August 5th at 11:00 am we will begin a Taize style service with communion in the sanctuary.  The music will be from Taize and Iona as well as songs from our hymnal which will have some more traditional hymnody and some contemporary.  We hope to develop a four part quartet to sing the background on the Taize music as well as some musicians using oboe, flute, violin and/or guitar.  There will be the reading of scripture and time of silent meditation.  The service will last around 45 minutes.
