Our Pastor, David Loar
David graduated from Hanover College and Eden Theological Seminary. He was ordained to ministry in 1976, but began serving as a local church pastor in 1975. He served as pastor in Mt. Vernon, IL; Mansfield, OH; Crossville, TN; Houston, TX; St. Germain, WI; before moving to Akron. David has been the pastor at Fairlawn West since 1995. He is married to Martha who is a 1st Grade teacher at Old Trail School. Their daughters are Kate, who is a student at Heidelberg University, and Molly, who is a student at Otterbein University.
His interests include swimming, hiking and canoeing. He leads summer canoe trips in the Ozarks of Missouri and Arkansas and along the Cumberland Plateau of KY & TN. He also gardens and walks their two dogs. He is presently the chairperson of the Mission Board of the Miller Ave UCC Mission here in Akron and on the board of the Akron Area Visual and Performing Arts which supports the VPA program of the Akron Public Schools. You will often hear him sing as part of the worship liturgy.
You can often find him on Fridays at the Nervous Dog Coffee Bar at 1520 West Market Street (on the east side of the Wallhaven District) between 1:30-4:00 pm. Stop by or give him a call.
