Loar's Log
I will be gone from Monday afternoon this week to Thursday evening to a retreat center in Syracuse, NY for training in leading churches in transition.

In my blog I have started a series of "Things I Like about the United Church of Christ."

I have changed my Friday afternoon time at the Nervous Dog coffee shop from 1:30 to 4:30 pm.

Small group leaders meet on Saturday at 11:30 am in my office.

A personal pitch...this will be my daughter Kate's last year singing with the Summit Choral Society Touring Choir in their annual Christmas concert series at St. Bernard's Church.  Kate has sung in this concert for 7 years.  This has become for me the most centering setting and experience for me in the pre-Christmas journey.  You can get tickets on their web site.

This Sunday we begin "new" time with the First Sunday of Advent.

the peace of Christ,
David

Prepare Christmas Gift Bags for Clients of Community Support Services
Wednesday Dec 5 and Thursday Dec 6 are two wonderful times to be  involved in helping others to celebrate Christmas.  Community Support Services (CSS) provides community-based treatment services in Summit County to individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses.  CSS serves as a safety net for those who suffer from illnesses such as schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, major depression and personality disorders.

Each year we provide the setting and organize the process for over 1200 gift bags to be prepared for many of these people.  On Wednesday night starting around 6:30 pm we will be setting up all the items and the tables for bags to be assembled.  On Thursday night other community groups will come in to assemble the bags, but we will still need volunteers to keep replenishing the boxes of gifts and to help clean up.

Check our web site for more precise times.
