offering hospitality to all God's children

This Sunday in the 9:30 am ChristStream service we are worshiping God and reflecting on the theme "Is Jesus the One...or are there others?".  A new gathering after the worship service started a few weeks ago, called "Let's Talk...".  Folks are invited to gather around a table in the sanctuary and talk about that day's theme with David Loar and others.  Remember also after the service is the group "The Bible and the 12 Steps of Recovery" which meets in the Music Room.  This group will help you to make your life in its daily practie more consistent with your beliefs.  It helps each of us to live the life that Christ calls us to live.  It helps us to make the changes in our life that we thought in the past were not possible.

Karen Hodge, Office Coordinator, will be on vacation next week.

The CROP Walk for Hunger is this Sunday sponsored by the Akron Area Interfaith Council.  It will take place at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Morewood in Fairlawn, a block from the main entrance to Summit Mall.  All the money raised will help hungry people around the world develop resources to be more self-sufficient.  Be a walker and/or a pledger for a walker.  Come and stroll with registration starting at 2:00 pm and the walk at 3:00 pm.

The planning meeting for the 2008 Habitat for Humanity house building coalition of west Akron churches will be on Wednesday, April 16 at 7:00 pm.  If you can represent Fairlawn West Church at the meeting, contact David Loar.

We've been asked to host the "Lunch on Us" at Miller Ave UCC in south Akron near Lincoln School on Saturday, May 24th from 10 am to 2 pm.  This is a twice monthly meal that serves around 50-100 people in a neighborhood that has a number of hungry people.  If you are willing to help or would like more info, contact David Loar
We need to people to cook, to set up, to host and to clean up.  A good time for all!

Watch this two part video on YouTube! (1, 2)  It is part of a series by Rob Bell called "nooma."  This one is called "Luggage."  Mary Beth Kluge has the whole series and introduce a few of us to it already.  We are looking to start a group of folks who would like to get together a few times a month to watch and reflect on the theme of each of these. (nooma segments on YouTube)
