Family Promise of Summit County

Family Promise of Summit County hosts homeless families.   We are one of the host congregations' that offers it's facilities for a week at a time every 8 weeks in the evenings.  The families are given a room for sleeping and privacy, have supper and breakfast, have their noon meal prepared to take with them, have people to visit with, and transportation for work, school, and/or to the FP Family Center during the day.  At the Family Center (which is next to Miller Ave UCC in south Akron), they have laundry and shower facilities, place to store their personal items, and work with a social worker to find housing, jobs, and other familiy services.

We have a host team that helps the weeks we host including room preparation, food prep, early evening hosting and visiting, spending the night in the building with the families, clean up, driving the Family Promise van in the morning and evenings to transport families without vehicles, or just visit, tutor or provide child care for a respite for parents.  Contact David Loar (330-864-2179), mark the Connection Card and place in the collection basket on Sunday mornings, contact our church office at 330.864-2179, or email us at office@fairlawnwest.org if would like to serve, would like more information, or would like to give a special offering for this ministry.
